The ACT Shipper-Carrier Connect united shippers, carriers, and logistics partners to shape the future of sustainable freight operations. This dynamic event showcased how effective collaboration can enable shippers and carriers to achieve shared economic and environmental sustainability goals.
Attendees learned about carriers’ firsthand experiences in using zero- and near-zero emission vehicles and integrating renewable fuels into their fleet operations to make significant strides toward achieving shipper sustainability and ESG targets. Participants also obtained insights into how to develop and implement a sustainability plan, including practical tips around data collection, accounting, and reporting.

Dr. Alan Lewis is Chief Technical Officer at Smart Freight Centre (SFC). He coordinates technical aspects across SFC’s freight transport transparency and decarbonization programs including the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC), Clean Cargo, Clean Air Transport, and the Sustainable Freight Buyers’ Alliance. Alan led the development of the GLEC Framework as the global industry guidance to calculate and report logistics emissions across the multi-modal logistics supply chain and was then project manager for the development of ISO 14083 which sets the standard for GHG calculation and reporting for all transport services. Previously, Alan worked in consultancy for more than 20 years working on the environmental and social impacts of freight and urban passenger transport. Alan has a PhD in Materials Science from Cambridge University.

In 2021 PepsiCo launched “PepsiCo Positive” which is our strategy that puts both sustainability and human capital at the center of everything we do so my role grew to support the advancements of electric vehicle and alternative fuel implementations along with an EPA SmartWay participation requirement for carriers which was previously optional. We know consumers are demanding the brands they buy come from and in ensuring they are sustainably produced.
