ACT Expo Announces 2018 Fleet Award Winners

Annual ACT Expo Fleet Awards recognize fleet operators who demonstrate leadership in operating in sustainable transportation

May 3, 2018 | Long Beach, Calif. — Organizers of the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, North America’s largest advanced clean transportation event, announced the winners of the 2018 Fleet Awards. The ACT Expo Fleet Awards are the ultimate recognition of fleet operators who show true leadership in sustainable transportation—having gone above and beyond what has been required to achieve sustainability in their transportation operations.

The 2018 ACT Expo Fleet Award categories and winners are as follows:

Leading Carrier Award

Winners of this award are organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to a sustainable supply chain. Finalists in this category included FedEx, Southern Counties Express and Total Transportation Services, Inc. (TTSI). The 2018 Leading Carrier Award winner is TTSI, an innovative, asset based logistics provider who continues to one of the first carriers to test and deploy advanced clean vehicle technologies and fuels.

Transit & Mobility Award

This category recognizes organizations that have demonstrated leadership in sustainable passenger transport, including buses, taxis, carsharing, and shuttles. Finalists in this category included Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), San Joaquin Regional Transit District, Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA), and Twin Rivers Unified School District. The 2018 Transit & Mobility Award winner is SARTA, who has one of the largest fuel cell bus fleets and continues to test and deploy other alternative fueled vehicles.

Leading Public Fleet Award

This category recognizes government fleets that have demonstrated leadership in the procurement and deployment of alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technology. Finalists in this category include City of Dublin, Ohio; County of Alameda, California; and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The 2018 Leading Public Fleet Award winner is the City of Dublin, Ohio who operates a public compressed natural gas (CNG) station and nearly one third of its fleet runs on CNG with new electric and hybrid-electric vehicle deployments expected this year.

Leading Private Fleet Award

Winners of this award are private-sector companies that have gone beyond requirements to green their fleet. Finalists in this category include Bimbo Bakeries USA, Border Valley Trading, C&S Wholesale Grocers, Nestle Waters, Ozinga Energy and Schwan’s. The 2018 Leading Private Fleet Award winner is Bimbo Bakeries USA who has over 300 alternatively fueled vehicles in their fleet, which include propane autogas and CNG trucks. Bimbo continues to replace diesel fueled vehicles will cleaner fuels and technologies.

Leading Airport Fleet Award

This category recognizes fleets that have demonstrated leadership in alternative fuel and advanced vehicle technology deployment at airports. Finalists in this category include Colonial Airport Parking, Los Angeles World Airports and WallyPark. The 2018 Leading Airport Fleet Award winner is WallyPark who became an early adopter of zero emission electric transportation solutions over five years ago and has since become the first offsite airport parking company in the country to deploy an all-electric fleet of shuttles. 

In It for the Long Haul Award

Often pioneers in their respective fields, organizations that win this award have demonstrated a “lifetime” commitment to sustainable transportation. Finalists in this category include the City of Long Beach, California; City of New York Sanitation Department, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro); and Verizon. The 2018 In It for the Long Haul Award winner is the City of Long Beach, California who has a comprehensive Green Fleet Program that prioritizes alternative fuel use and operates a mix of vehicles including hybrid-electric, CNG/LNG, renewable natural gas, and battery electric.
