Kenworth Electrifies Vocational Trucking with T880E Launch, Next Generation T680E

Kenworth took a step toward the future of vocational trucking with the launch of the T880E, the industry’s first Class 8 battery-electric vocational truck, introduced during ACT Expo 2025. This addition to Kenworth’s lineup highlights the company’s expansion into zero-emission solutions tailored specifically for vocational fleets.

The T880E features Kenworth’s fully integrated PACCAR ePowertrain, delivering continuous power between 365 to 470 hp and up to 605 hp peak with 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque. Designed from the ground up for electric operation, the T880E supports a customizable range of 100 to 250-plus miles depending on battery configuration, with gross vehicle weight ratings up to 82,000 pounds.

“This is a groundbreaking milestone for Kenworth,” said Kevin Haygood, Kenworth’s assistant general manager for sales and marketing. “The T880E meets the evolving demands of operators while maintaining the durability, reliability, and customization our customers expect.”

The T880E offers both set-forward and set-back front axle configurations and retains key vocational features from its diesel-powered sibling, including multi-piece hood construction and a rugged, customizable chassis. The new electric drivetrain enables options such as lift axles and high- and low-voltage ePTOs, crucial for heavy-duty vocational tasks like concrete mixing and refuse hauling.

With DC fast charging capabilities up to 350 kW, the T880E can reach 90% charge in about two hours. Inside, drivers will find Kenworth’s latest 15-inch DriverConnect digital display, SmartWheel steering controls, and optional ADAS packages featuring DigitalVision mirrors, Bendix Fusion, and Lane Keeping Assist.

“Our customers are looking for a variety of technologies to meet evolving regulatory and operational demands,” said Haygood. “Kenworth’s diesel, natural gas, and now zero-emission vehicles ensure we have solutions for every need today and into the future.”

Alongside the T880E, Kenworth also introduced its Next Generation T680E at ACT Expo. Designed for regional haul, LTL, and drayage operations, the T680E features a new PACCAR-integrated ePowertrain, a redesigned aerodynamic exterior, and upgraded cab technologies aimed at maximizing driver experience and vehicle performance. The T680E offers up to 200+ miles of range with a 500 kWh battery pack and shares the same 350 kW fast-charging capabilities.

“Our engineering team has worked diligently over the past several years to develop a PACCAR integrated battery-electric platform from the ground up,” said Haygood. “This strategic approach enables us to provide a truck and a powertrain for every job that effectively meet customer needs based on range, performance, reliability and ease of service.”
