As CEO, Carlbaum spearheaded a comprehensive rebranding initiative, transforming Navistar into International Motors. This rebranding went beyond visual identity to include innovative operational strategies and smarter workflows, aligning the company with the evolving digital landscape. Under his leadership, the company not only gained market share in North America but also substantially increased profitability following the 2021 merger with the TRATON GROUP.

As global sustainability efforts continue to gain momentum, Carlbaum signed a commitment for International to develop science-based goals, supported the participation of International in the United Nations Global Compact initiative, reinforced the establishment of Powering America’s Commercial Transportation (PACT) alongside industry peers, and is driving further integration of software into International products to drive efficiency, safety and add customer value.

Beyond leading the operational and cultural post-merger management of International on behalf of the TRATON GROUP, Carlbaum has extensive experience in sales and international markets. For five years, he served as Executive Vice President, Commercial Operations of Scania CV AB in Södertälje, Sweden. In that role, Carlbaum managed support functions critical to sales and marketing efficiency.

David Liu is the CEO and Co-Founder at Plus. He helps set the company’s overall strategic direction to realize its vision of making transportation smarter, safer and greener by developing AI-based autonomous driving software designed to solve the driving intelligence problem.

Plus’s large AI models are already powering vehicles in commercial use today. Partners including Scania/MAN/International of the TRATON GROUP, Hyundai Motor Company, Iveco Group, Bosch, DSV, Luminar, and Transurban are working with Plus to accelerate the deployment of next-generation factory-built autonomous trucks globally.

Liu is a serial entrepreneur. After starting his career at Hewlett Packard, Silicon Graphics, and later McKinsey, he went on to build several successful companies with innovative technology-driven products. Liu holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Peter Ludwig is the Co-Founder and CTO of Applied Intuition. Peter did his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Michigan in Computer Science. Catharina Modahl Nilsson was born in 1963. She holds a Master of Science in Vehicle Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1987, Modahl Nilsson started her career as a trainee with Saab-Scania. She held a number of management positions at Scania CV AB, including Project Director/Head of Project Management Office and Engineering Director Cab Development. In 2016, Modahl Nilsson was named Head of Chassis, Cab, Complete Vehicle, and Bus in the TRATON GROUP. From 2019 to 2021, she was Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Permobil Group. In January 2022, Modahl Nilsson took over as Head of Group Product Management in the TRATON GROUP. Since April 2023, she has been a member of the Executive Board of TRATON SE, responsible for TRATON Group Product Management.

Ms. Poppe joined PG&E in January 2021 after five years as President and CEO of CMS Energy and its principal subsidiary, Consumers Energy, where she focused on connecting the utility more closely with its customers and adapting lean operating system principles throughout the business. In her decade-long career with the Michigan company, she also served as Senior Vice President of Distribution Operations, Engineering and Transmission; Vice President of Customer Experience, Rates and Regulation; and Vice President of Customer Operations.

Previously, Ms. Poppe served as a Power Plant Director at DTE Energy. Prior to joining DTE Energy, she held a variety of plant management positions in the automotive industry.

Ms. Poppe is a member of the Board of Directors for Associated Electric & Gas Insurance Services Limited, Edison Electric Institute, Institute of Nuclear Power Operations and the Electric Power Research Institute.

She earned a master’s degree in management from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University.

Jennifer Rumsey is the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Cummins Inc., a global power leader that offers its customers a broad portfolio of innovative power solutions and technologies, including advanced diesel, natural gas, electric and hybrid powertrains; batteries; fuel cells; hydrogen production technologies; and related components. Rumsey oversees the strategic direction, growth initiatives and global operations for the 105-year-old, Indiana-based company, which has more than 75,500 employees worldwide and achieved $34.1 billion in revenue in 2023.

Prior to serving as Chair and CEO, Rumsey served as President and Chief Operating Officer, where she co-authored Destination Zero, the company’s strategy to go further, faster to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) and air quality impacts of its products. She has served in multiple leadership roles, including Vice President of Components and Chief Technical Officer, two roles where she oversaw the advancement and launch of many new products that continued to progress the company’s efforts reduce emissions while offering industry-leading performance.

Rumsey holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Lars Stenqvist is Executive Vice President Group Trucks Technology and Chief Technology Officer Volvo Group since October 2016, when he also became a member of the Volvo Group Executive Board.

Lars has over 30 years of experience from the heavy vehicle industry. Before joining Volvo Group, he was Head of R&D and CTO at Volkswagen Truck & Bus 2015-2016 and Senior Vice President Vehicle Definition R&D at Scania 2007-2015. Prior thereto, several senior positions at Scania.

Lars is a Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) and a Board member of cellcentric. In 2024, Lars Stenqvist was awarded CTO of the Year in Sweden.

Jim Walenczak was named Kenworth Truck Company’s general manager in January 2024. He oversees all aspects of the design, manufacture, sales and service of The World’s Best® heavy- and medium-duty trucks, including development of advanced diesel powertrains, zero emissions vehicles, connected truck technologies and autonomous driving systems.

Jim has been with PACCAR since 2011, he previously served as Kenworth assistant general manager for sales and marketing.  Jim has held positions of increasing responsibility including fleet, region and general sales manager positions at Kenworth and assistant general manager for operations at PACCAR Parts.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing from Michigan State University and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Washington. He attended the Stanford Executive Program in 2023. Jim is based at Kenworth Truck Company headquarters in Kirkland, Washington.

Steve Bennett, a fourth-generation member of the Bennett family that founded Utility in 1914, began his career while still in school, working at the California factory and corporate office. In 1989, he became a salesman at the San Leandro, California dealership. After six years, Steve returned to the corporate office as the Western Division Sales Manager. In 1998, he relocated to England to become the Managing Director of Utility International Limited and was later promoted to Vice President of European Sales and Marketing. Upon returning to the United States, Steve served as Vice President. In 2023, the fourth generation assumed new leadership roles at Utility, with Steve currently serving as President & COO. Steve is also President & CEO of Cargobull North America.

Carlo Bertani is an environmental expert with nearly 20 years of experience in sustainability. Before Maersk, Carlo led operational sustainability initiatives at Walmart and worked as an environmental scientist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In 2016, Sarah became the President of Martin Brower Canada and two years later was appointed President, International Lead Markets. In 2020, Sarah led the largest business segment of Martin Brower as US President prior to being named Chief Executive Officer in January 2022.

Sarah holds an MBA degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, a Juris Doctor degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Susquehanna University. She lives in the Chicago suburbs with her husband and 3 children.

David Renschler is the Public Works Fleet Division Manager for the City of Fairfield.  David has over 30 years of experience in the fleet industry with most of the time spent in Government service. David has served in multiple fleet organizations and is currently the Chairman for the Municipal Equipment Managers Association (MEMA NOR CAL).  David has held over 20 ASE’s and has gained the APWA’s Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) designation. At SCE he led various organizations including electric system planning, asset management, grid operations, and emerging technologies.

He serves on the Department of Energy’s Electricity Advisory Committee, and the Dean’s Advisory Committee for the College of Engineering at California State University at Long Beach. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Long Beach, and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University.

Before joining Penske in 2023, Taneva was the senior director of ESG for The Container Store, where she led the oversight and reporting of all board level ESG topics. Prior to joining The Container Store, Taneva led the development and execution of Alcon’s global environmental sustainability strategy, including sustainable sourcing, manufacturing, and product development.

She was awarded both a bachelor’s degree in international economics and an executive MBA from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

A long-time Volvo Penta employee, Tasker joined the company in 1996 as area account manager and internal sales engineer. He has also served as UK industrial sales manager, off- highway project director for Europe; and director of industrial business for the Americas. He also held the interim position of head of the organizations European Industrial division in 2018. Originally from the United Kingdom, he earned an MBA degree from Middlesex University. Tasker is a member of the Chartered Management Institute and a past chairman of the Association of Manufacturers of Power Generating Systems.

Tim Taylor managed the Land Use, Communications and Mobile Source Division at the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) from 1996 to 2003 and again from 2007 to his retirement in August of 2018. Between 2003 and 2007, he was the Government Relations Manager for Cleaire, a Bay Area based manufacturer of diesel particulate filters.

Mr. Taylor was part of the team that formed the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition in 1994, and was selected as the Vice President of the Coalition at that time. He became co-coordinator of the coalition in 2015 and was appointed as the Executive Director in 2018. In 2022, he became Co-director along with his longtime colleague, Keith Leech when Mr. Leech retired from his fleet management career.

Greg joined the Daimler Truck family in 2002 as part of the used truck acquisitions team at Daimler Truck Remarketing and spent more than three years on the Economic and Trucking Intelligence team. During his time with DTNA, Greg has held a number of managerial roles in the marketing organization, with more than a decade of experience leading cross-functional teams across multiple brands, products, market segments and emerging technologies. He led marketing and market development strategy for DTNA’s connected vehicle services and was instrumental in setting the vision for DTNA’s initial marketing communications efforts for e-mobility and autonomous trucking.

Over the past 16 years in the clean transportation industry, she has developed expertise in funding and incentives for clean vehicles and infrastructure, starting with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Environmental Mitigation Trust through the current funding landscape at the state and federal level, utility programs and more. Bonnie co-chairs the Colorado Women of EVs chapter and is a Board member of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Transit Enterprise Board.

Mr. Tufte has served for over 40 years in progressively responsible positions within the company and presently oversees the Equipment Performance programs at the enterprise level. Waste Management, Inc. is the leading provider of comprehensive waste management and environmental services in North America.

Mr. Tufte and his team have pioneered Waste Management’s use of alternative fuel vehicles and oversees all new technology programs. These include Natural gas, RNG, Battery Electric, Hydrogen, Hybrids and telematics programs to name a few.

Mr. Tufte has a technical degree from Austin Technical College and has a strong technical and fabrication background.

Dr. Sydney Vergis was appointed Deputy Executive Officer at the California Air Resources Board in June 2023. Dr. Vergis’ responsibilities include overseeing new and emerging air pollution control programs and policies related to mobile emissions sources. In addition, she oversees the incentive programs in the Sustainable Transportation and Communities Division and the Mobile Source Control Division (MSCD). Previously, Dr. Vergis was the Division Chief of MSCD, overseeing the development and implementation of medium-duty, heavy-duty and off-road emissions regulations, as well as many of CARB’s incentive programs. She previously led CARB’s Legislative Office and is a former Senior Land Use Planner and former Yolo County Planning Commissioner.  She is also a member of the Davis Sunrise Rotary Club.

Dr. Vergis received a B.S. in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning, a B.A. in Economics and a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Transportation Technology and Policy, from the University of California Davis.

Peter Voorhoeve is President of Volvo Trucks North America, headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina. Previously, Voorhoeve led Volvo Group Australia from 2013 until 2018, prior to which he held several senior management positions in the areas of Aftermarket Support, Supply Chain Management, and Parts Logistics during his nearly 20 years with the Volvo Group.

Voorhoeve is a dynamic leader with an intense focus on customer satisfaction as the leading driver to build on the success of the exciting new products and services Volvo has introduced to the market. Originally from the Netherlands, Voorhoeve holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from the University of Technology in Eindhoven.

Bob Wegeng is the President and Chief Technology Officer at STARS Technology Corporation, a Richland, WA-based company that is commercializing compact hydrogen production systems. Based on microchannel process technology (chemical reactors, heat exchangers and chemical separators), that were initially developed at the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), these units are compact, efficient, process-intensive (allowing high process rates with minimal footprints) and are mass-producible.

STARS recently completed the two-year demonstration of a first-of-a-kind, clean hydrogen production pilot plant at the SunLine Transit Agency through a project that was co-sponsored by the Southern California Gas Corporation. The STARS pilot plant efficiently used renewable natural gas, delivered via “book-and-claim” through natural gas pipelines, to produce clean hydrogen for fuel cell buses.

Derek Winkel has been a renewable fuels manufacturing leader for 25 years. Beginning his career at National Starch and Chemical, Derek went on to lead POET’s first managed ethanol plant before joining Renewable Energy Group (REG) as an early employee. In 17 years at REG, he played an instrumental role in building and operating North America’s largest biodiesel fleet, contributing to the company’s successful $3.15 billion acquisition by Chevron. Now serving as Chief Operating Officer at Oberon Fuels, Derek leads Oberon’s manufacturing, project engineering, EHS, regulatory and logistics functions. He brings his extensive operational expertise to optimize production at the company’s Maverick renewable DME production facility and future projects, continuing his legacy of advancing renewable fuel manufacturing excellence.

He has led successful teams that have earned 38 international, national, state, regional and local alternative fuel technologies, and transportation related awards. Awards of note are a U.S. EPA Clean Air Excellence Award for Transportation Efficiency Innovations and a #1 Government Green Fleet in North America.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in structural engineering and construction management from Penn State University.

William (Bill) Zobel is the Director of Alternative Fuel Strategy and Business Development for Pilot, one of North America’s leading providers of traditional and alternative transportation fuels. Bill is responsible for developing and executing the company’s alternative fuels strategy, focusing on Clean Hydrogen and Renewable Gas. Prior to joining Pilot, he served as VP of Business Development at Iwatani, assisting in the development of a fully integrated hydrogen value chain. He has also held leadership roles in Trillium, Sempra Energy, BP North America, and served as Executive Director of the California Hydrogen Business Council. He has served on several boards, including CalStart, NGV America, and the Conservation Corps of Long Beach.

Bill is a graduate of Columbia University’s executive business program and holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from California State University Long Beach.
