I’ll start with the obvious: clean transportation is moving forward at an incredible pace. 2025 has been a pivotal year — full of bold investments, groundbreaking projects, and impressive results for those of us in the business of advanced fuels. While the industry continues to evolve, one thing is clear: innovation is driving us faster and further than ever before.
At ACT Expo 2026 (and leading up to it!), I invite you to join us in #FuelingProgress. In true ACT fashion, we’ll highlight the latest vehicle technologies, charging and refueling infrastructure, and, of course, the fleets leading the way.
So, what are some of the most exciting advances we’re seeing in the EV industry right now?
1. Charging depots take off
2025 has seen a remarkable wave of EV charging depots opening and breaking ground. From WattEV’s Oakland site to BP’s LAX site, California continues to lead, but momentum is building nationwide. Voltera’s sizable Texas projects, Zeem’s expansion into Washington, MN8’s work in New York, and Greenlane’s new corridors are just a few of the game-changing developments coming online.
2. OEM investments grow
Major manufacturers are doubling down with bold investment announcements. Ford and International are expanding their EV commitments, while mergers like Motiv and Workhorse signal even stronger market confidence and scale.
3. Last mile electrification accelerates
The last mile market, Class 2b through Class 5/6, is seeing significant fleet adoption and positive TCO results, particularly in urban environments. This segment is becoming one of the fastest-growing opportunities in EV deployment.
4. Megawatt charging comes closer to reality
Announcements around megawatt charging installations and new hardware options are appearing almost daily. What once seemed years away is now within reach, bringing fleets closer to a refueling experience that mirrors the speed and convenience of diesel and gasoline.
5. States and utilities expand support
Funding awards, incentive programs, and policy commitments are moving forward across the country. From California and New York doubling down on clean transportation, to utilities launching new incentive programs, fleets now have more opportunities than ever to access charging infrastructure support.
6. Autonomous EV momentum
Autonomous technology continues to capture attention, with companies like Waymo demonstrating what’s possible for the future of commercial fleets. These advancements are not only transforming mobility but also shaping the future of EV charging and operations.
Looking Ahead
The pace of innovation in EVs and advanced fuels has never been stronger. We are already seeing the results of recent investments, and the next several months leading into ACT Expo promise even more breakthroughs.
And this is just the beginning of our #FuelingProgress series. In the weeks ahead, ACT News will explore:
- Hydrogen’s next chapter and why fleets are embracing it.
- Renewable fuels as the quiet workhorse of 2025.
- Utility programs rising to meet fleet demand.
- The zero-emission yard revolution happening behind the scenes.
If you’re leading the way with new technology in EVs or advanced fuels, don’t miss your chance to feature it at the largest commercial vehicle event. Submit an abstract by September 26, 2025.
Let’s keep the momentum strong — together we’re #FuelingProgress.
